Sweating Sickness - A guide to Perspiration Problems

Excessive Head Sweating

Many people suffer from excessive head sweating and whilst others perspire more on their hands and underarms, head sweating is inevitably more visible and more difficult to hide from view.

Of course, there can be many reasons for excessive head sweating and these should be investigated by a doctor before looking for a more cosmetic solution to head sweating.

One of the more common causes for this problem is a thyroid problem. This is likely to cause sweating even in a coolish room. Naturally excessive head sweating will lead to other problems such as an itchy scalp and can cause hair to have an unpleasant smell.

Some foods can cause an excessive amount of head sweating too; especially the consumption of hot spicy food and chillies in particular. In fact, for some, even the mention of the word 'chilli' can cause them to break out into a sweat! Stress too, can be a factor, especially stress caused by a forthcoming event like perhaps giving a speech. These types of head sweats however are purely temporary and not to be worried about.

For women, excessive sweating can create the extra problem of causing make up to run which is probably not a look they were going for. Thankfully there are a number of cosmetic treatments that are available and worth a try such as antiperspirant face wipes which may reduce facial sweating.

Is ETS Surgery Safe ?

If the sweating is still excessive after trying all alternatives there is the possibility of ETS surgery which reduces the sweat glands that cause the excessive sweating. However, this is a drastic step and ETS surgery has many side effects and it is quite possible that it will increase rather than the decrease the sweating. Botox has also been used to prevent excessive sweating and as we all know, botox injections are becoming increasingly common so if you are considering this, consult your cosmetic surgeon to see if this is appropriate for your own situation.

Ultimately though, if you do suffer from excessive head sweating and the antiperspirant over the counter treatments do not work, please do consult your doctor to discover what is at the root of the problem.
